When constructing or modifying a house / building, or when considering building one, the following steps are required: 

  1. Before hiring a Certified Electrician (CE "installateur"), the owner of the house or building must have a valid site plan
  2. Hire a certified electrician who is approved by the Department of Technical Inspection (D.T.I.)
  3. Provide all necessary documents
  4. Calculate the required electrical capacity (kVA) of the house or building in consultation with the certified electrician.
  5. The CE must submit the request via the CE Portal, the certified electrician must enter the required load capacity and all relevant project details
  6. Review by the Planning / Inspection Department of N.V. ELMAR, the request will be evaluated, and the certified electrician will receive guidance on the appropriate connection point
  7. Grid capacity evaluation by N.V. ELMAR, if the requested load exceeds existing infrastructure or requires grid modification / expansion, the request will be routed to the Planning Department
  8. Electrical niche (NIS) instructions, the certified electrician will receive specific requirements from N.V. ELMAR on how and where to construct the electrical niche
  9. The CE submits request to D.T.I.
  10. The CE schedules site survey with N.V. ELMAR and D.T.I. All three parties must sign the inspection card

Always start on time with the preparations, preferably even before starting construction.

Inspection Days:

  • Tuesday and Thursday for Oranjestad and surroundings
  • Wednesday for San Nicolas and adjacent areas.

Only the department of “Planning/Inspection”, in consultation with the customer/representative is authorized to specify where the connection is to be placed.

After approval by D.T.I and N.V. ELMAR

Once the installation has been approved by both D.T.I. and N.V. ELMAR, the owner of the plot /  house that needs to be connected to the N.V. ELMAR network must visit one of our offices with the required documentation.
