Accidents can happen anytime and anywhere. It is the responsibility of an organization to provide a healthy and safe work environment for their employees, contractors and visitors. However in order to maintain a healthy and safe working environment, a collective commitment from both the company and individuals working for the company is required.

Here at N.V. ELMAR health and safety is embedded in the general policy of the organization. Nevertheless working safely can only be accomplished when each individual is committed to their own safety and the safety of the people they work with.

To establish and maintain a positive safety culture in the organization, N.V. ELMAR is implementing a safety management system which will help to continuously make necessary safety improvements. In order to achieve this it is required to have a culture in which people are intrinsically motivated to drive the aspects of the safety management system.

The safety management system is based on the Caribbean Basic Safety Standard and comprises of these main components:

1. Management and Policy

2. Employees

3. Resources

4. Community

With this standard N.V. ELMAR can perform its own safety analysis and implement the necessary and/or adequate preventive and corrective measures to enhance the overall safety environment.
